I have to dig deep, but I think that I’m actually old enough to remember that station idents were once just plain static logos with maybe an added sound effect. This was way before shiny flying 3D logo’s (boring!) became standard practice. The adventurous, art and culture-oriented German-French TV network Arte just rebranded, and in the process they revolutionized the notion of what a TV ident can be. Arte’s 27 new idents are actually scenes from a kaleidoscopic and surreal short story. You can access each “scene” from a drawn map on the Arte website. Lots of European talent involved in the making of, such as Belgian director Joe Vanhoutteghem of CZAR, and Joost Korngold, whose work is featured on Watch the Titles.
