In the Making-of video of Radiohead’s “House of Cards” promo, director James Frost talks about how he got this idea for doing a music video based on a UCLA research program on real-time 3D plotting technologies. But where do you go with a radical idea that, on paper at least, might seem really, really far out there… To Radiohead, of course. Making the “House of Cards” video involved three brand-new technologies, a host of computers and even a D.O.T. (Director of Technology – that’s got to be a first). One recording system involved a 360-degree scanner that uses 64 laser beams to capture a landscape – the scanner is an impressive looking machine that spins like crazy and looks like a prop straight from the first season of Star Trek.
Thanks Jurriaan for the tip.
