8-Bit Trip

A whole new level of retro-geek is reached with this awe-inspiring display of patience and dedication (obsessive compulsion?). Close to four minutes of Lego-tastic stop motion are the culmination of no less than 1500 hours of deconstrucing, reconstructing, and photographing the beloved plastic brick-plugs, by Swedish musician Daniel Larsson and his animator buddy Thomas Redigh. … Continued

Steampunk Stop Motion Animation

Steampunk! Stop motion! Just two of our favorite things, and they gloriously unite in this charming stop motion composition – from Agfa to Zeiss  – of dismantled antique cameras. We’re big fans of the creators over at the Shamptonian, a splendid institution that will re-instate your faith in humanity. Incidentally, you can read the full … Continued

Cool Stop Motion Video

Excessive amounts of make-up were used to create the face paint animations for this music video for We Have Band, created by W+K’s creative team and Blinkink director David Wilson.  “Each and every frame was hand-painted, shot, wiped off and redrawn, slightly differently for the next frame in order to create a seamless sequence.” The … Continued

Inanimate Love

Got the Valentines Schmalentines blues? This little stop motion should put a smile on your face. Watch as household objects frot themselves into a lusty frenzy over an emotive, piano-heavy soundtrack. While cheese and chorizo find love in the privacy of their fridge, chocolate bonbons openly conduct an orgy on the kitchen table. Dry, raspy … Continued

Flooded McDonald’s

Veteran Danish artist collective Superflex (Anno 1993) have a knack of making socio-political commentary without being all waggy-fingered and worthy. Flooded McDonald’s is a 20-minute film in which a life-size interior replica of everyone’s favorite ethically catastrophic diner, slowly gets flooded with water (recycled, naturellement). As the water continues to rise, the familiar-looking golden-arch-heavy fast … Continued

O-B-A-M-A

This sparkly music video for an Obamafied Daft Punk “Aerodynamic” mashup by Adam Freeland, is a fine one to shake celebratory booty to on this hope-and-change-fuelled day for humankind. Directed by the elusive duo at GOLD, the stop motion clip features an army of customized designer toys by the likes of Dalek, Bill McMullen and … Continued

Steven Harrington at Sundance

It’s always gratifying when a graphic super-whizz gets his or her work animated by some kindly motion talent. Steven Harrington, known and loved for his Cali-flavored rock album-cover surrealism, teamed up with Karla Carnewal to bring us “A Two Part Invention of the Universe”. Screening at Sundance 09, the stop motion piece features rotating teepees … Continued

The Subtle Difference Between Respect and Admiration

Sure we have respect for those people who spend all their spare time making a Viking boat out of 15 million ice cream sticks or a scale model of the Beijing Olympic Village out of 140000 playing cards, but real admiration we reserve for people like Josh Logue and his crew. For the Australian indie … Continued

Javan Ivey

Although the short time-lapse film about the making of his paper-cuts is quit boring, Javan Ivey’s stop-motion film My Paper Mind is absolutely beautiful. In this experimental animation Javan explores the possibilities of the Stratastencil-technique which he invented himself. The result is amazing, we especially like the flowmotion of the swing.
