Visual Foreign Correspondents – a monthly series of audio-visual artworks – commissioned a Flash piece by Young-hae Chang Heavy Industries (YCHI). This Korean-American duo has been creating text-based Flash animations scored with classic jazz for about 10 years now. All this time they stayed true to their signature minimalist aesthetic, partly inspired by the title sequences of Godard’s early films.
There is something very compelling about YCHI’s Flash works, which is one of the reasons why they’ve been accepted with open arms by the so-called serious art world. Morning of the Mongoloids is another great piece about a man who wakes up one morning and finds out that his face and body doesn’t belong to him.
