French Fridays on Watch the Titles with “The Umbrellas”

“French Fridays” – a special program on Watch the Titles dedicated to French title design from the 1950’s till the 1980’s updates with a true nouvelle vague masterpiece, the opening title sequence of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

Shot in a single take and supported by a haunting score by multiple Academy Award-winning composer Michel Legrand, director Jacques Demy and title designer Jean Fouchet created their most memorable title sequence together – one that appears on numerous lists of favorite film credits of all time.
