We’re featuring three title designs by self-taught animation and stop-motion director Balder Westein from Amsterdam. The animated main-on-end credits for the kids movie Gruesome School Trip (Originally De Griezelbus) have an almost Burtonesque feel to it. For Pluk van de Petteflet, Westein created a collage-like sequence featuring caricatures of the actors. The brand-new titles for teen road movie Dunya & Desie are a very rare treat. Nine different sets were used for the opener, which features twenty-one credits placed on a wide variety of objects. All credits are embedded in the scenes itself. How did Westein get it done in only 2,3 weeks? We discusses the making of each title in the accompanying interviews, and Westein notices that there is “a new wave of interest for title sequences in Holland”.
