Died Young, Stayed Pretty: film about rock poster design

The just-released trailer for Eileen Yaghoobians’ new documentary introduces us to the parallel universe of American indie rock poster design. Chopping up the paradoxes of Western civilization, and gluing, Xeroxing and silk-screening them into eye-popping graphic posters for the likes of Sonic Youth and Arcade Fire, the pioneers of underground poster production (including SubmarineChannel fave Darren Pasemko, who did the above poster) talk us through the benefits and pitfalls of the color pink, octopus imagery, and spider-webs. Rock’n’roll! Watch this space for Yaghoobian’s upcoming Pretty Cool People Interview, cut from her unused footage. Or see the film on SXSW.
