Submarine ChannelA few months back we asked “Whatever Happened to Chris Cunningham?”, after a prolonged silence following his Palm “Director Label” disk and Rubber Johnny short back in ’05. Well he’s back, and as eye-poppingly sumptuous as ever, with this 30-second spot for Gucci’s new Flora fragrance. Although it’s not in our nature to blog about commercials, we’ll make an exception for this one.Set against the audio backdrop of Mr Cunningham’s very own “I Feel Love” remix, it features Australian model of the moment Abby Lee draped in billowing fabrics, and surrounded by a mass of sun-dappled blooms (comprised of 20 000 fake flowers no less), to spectacularly ethereal effect. The people at Gucci must be so proud!
