Submarine ChannelAah, trusty old chatroulette! An endless source of weirdness and time-wastery, social experimentation, and artistic ingenuity. Narcissus is a cultural endeavour which pays homage to the myth of Narcissus (a.k.a his inability to recognize his own pretty face in the mirror), using bespoke software to divert the incoming chatroulette video feed so each person sees their OWN FACE instead of a gnarly pervert / potential life partner. The second before they “next” themselves is recorded and presented in a fascinating tableau of human emotion. Each frame contains 108 different faces continuously selected from a collection of many thousands acquired during the period of Feb-May 2010.
