Tagline of this website: “They were into you, so they made you a tape.” Cassettefrommyex.com is an utterly nostalgic, but lovely and original tribute to those old beloved mix tapes. Most of the stories were written by pros – writers, journalists, musicians and the like – which is a nice break for a change, and makes for some truly engaging stories. Of course you can listen to those treasured mixes too and drool over some of the scanned images of the actual cassettes (works of art!) because, if you really wanted to impress your love interest, any old Maxell just wouldn’t do – you had to DECORATE the tape to express how unique and wonderful you (think they) are. So, undust your cassette deck and check out the site (in whatever order).
On a side note: What does not compute, is hearing one of the songs from a mix tape out of that romantic, memory-laden context. I’m talking about that feeling when, a few seconds before a mix tape song ends on the radio, the first notes of the next song on the tape have already announced themselves in your head. But the radio always plays another song instead…
