After reading film expert Edward Jay Epstein’s doomsday scenario on Gawker, you’d think the answer to that question is a sure No. In his article, Epstein explains why Hollywood is abandoning the indie movie business in favor of merchandisable CGI spectacles like Avatar. His bleak conclusion is based on the fact that “by 2010, most of the mini-majors were effectively out of business including New Line Cinema, Fine Line Features, Picturehouse, Warner Independent…”. The list goes on. But it’s not all gloom and doom. Some good counter arguments can be found in the comments section.
